Steps
- Clamp it to the chainstays just behind the BB, with the rubber pad protecting the paint.
- Shift through every gear and backpedal: the chain and rotor must not touch it, and the folded leg must clear the crank and pedal.
- Adjust the leg so the bike leans slightly when parked.
- Tighten the clamp bolt evenly. Never clamp a kickstand to carbon stays. On aluminum or thin-wall frames use the frame's kickstand plate or mount if it has one; if not, check the bike maker allows a clamp-on stand, and don't over-tighten (it can crush the stays).
Torque
| Fastener | Torque |
|---|---|
| Kickstand clamp bolt | maker's spec (no standard value; snug enough that it can't rotate) |
Signs it needs doing
- Bike leans too far or tips (leg too short/long)
- Clamp scratches the stays
- Hits the chain or rotor
