Schwinn Koen 16" SmartStart: specs, upgrades and what fits
A steel SmartStart 16-inch kids' bike with one gear, a rear coaster brake plus a front caliper hand brake, steel single-wall rims, a quill stem in a threaded headset, a seat handle and removable training wheels; Schwinn listed it at $179.99 and Amazon often sells it far lower. The Elm 16 (S0683) is the girls' twin; the 2026 Koen 16 (S5516) is a different build with coaster brake only and a 1-inch threadless headset. Best for: Kids about 3 to 7 learning to ride.

My take, from the specs
A sturdy 16-inch learner bike for kids about 3 to 7, with training wheels, a seat handle, a coaster brake and a small front hand brake. At about 9.4 kg on steel rims it is heavy for small riders. On a used one, check that the coaster brake engages cleanly and the quill stem sits above its minimum-insert mark, and note the 2026 Koen 16 is a different build.
