Used bike prices: what's a fair price?

A fair price for 159 popular bikes bought used, by age and condition. Big-box store bikes (Walmart, Target) lose value faster than bike-shop bikes: roughly 40% in the first year and then 15% a year, against 30% and then 10%.

The tables show good condition (normal wear, everything works). Each bike's page has the full table by condition, and the app works out an exact price from what the bike needs.

Before you pay

Look over the frame at the welds for cracks or dents.
Hold the front brake and rock the bike: a clunk at the front means a loose headset.
Spin the wheels: they should run straight without rubbing.
Shift through every gear on a short ride.
Check the serial number on bikeindex.org to make sure it isn't stolen.

Prices vary by area and season (bikes sell for more in spring). Compare with real eBay sales from each bike's page.
